This Week in Personal Finance we ended our banking unit. On Wednesday Mrs. Weser was not here so we did alot of questions investments. From this assignment i learned that it is good to invest early because then you get interest on interest. On Thursday we got new groups and the whole class was rearranged into different groups. Then we had to make posters on certain kinds of insurance. My Group did Homeowners insurance which is very important in case anything were to happen to your home it would be covered under your insurance.

This week in Personal Finance we are still using Weserville money. On Monday we played Monopoly during class because the Juniors were on a field trip. Then on Tuesday Mrs. Weser was not here so we watched a movie in Mrs. Kuvalsicks room and had to complete a worksheet on the movie, our class was also very small because the freshmen in Earth Science went on a field trip. On Wednesday Mrs. Weser was late to class so everyone got a dollar which was pretty nice, then we shopped for cell phones online and had to pick a phone that we could afford, it was also pay day on Wednesday.

This week in Econ we have finally started personal finance. It has been pretty cool how we now have Westerville dollars and can choose to buy things, but one bad thing is that now things cost money like charging your computer or not having homework or sharpening a pencil and leaving the classroom. We also have bills to pay each week. I really like doing the Westerville dollars and I think that it was very fun and a good way to understanding how to manage our money.

This week in Economics we didn't do much. We have started our wiki pages on our country we have choose which are suppose to be due on Tuesday. I find learning about the countries interesting but the wiki page seems difficult. We had a shortened week because of the retreat so we had a half day on thursday and then no school on Friday. Next week we will probably do more on our wiki pages and start to get them finished.

This week in Economics took a-lot of notes and closed our argument on Walmart. We took a vote on Friday last week of the people who were there and then over the weekend the people who were not there had an opportunity to vote on Walmart. On Monday when we came in we found the results that Walmart would not be coming to town. For the rest of the week we took notes each day. We also took an open note quiz. Then we also did an assignment called Economic Indicators. On this assignment we had to find the GDP per captia, GDP official exchange rate, unemployment rate, population below poverty line, debt public, debt external, and the inflation rate. I found it very interesting to see the how the economy is in different countries.

This week in Econ class we have been working mainly on the issue of whether or not Walmart should come to Weserville. I believe that Walmart could do good things for Weserville. It would create more jobs paying at minimum wage, but this is more money than the people that are unemployed have been making. Also they are some jobs like managers, and group leaders that will make more money than minimum wage. Walmart could also provide a place closer than 2 hours away for people to buy what they need. Without a Walmart in town the people would have to travel 2 hours each way to buy things they need and that also takes a lot of gas. I think that Walmart in Weserville will be a good first step to expanding the town.

Last Blog post before Midterms

Well this should be everyone's last blog post before the midterms. This week in Econ we focused on getting some more concepts in just before the weekend. We had a lot of things happen in Weserville this week. On Wednesday the mayor declared a holiday and for everyone to leave town. When we came back from our holiday Weserville was flooded.  There was a lot of water flooding the streets. This is very unusual for weserville because they are in the mountains but the river rose about 10 feet and flooded Weserville and the towns near it. Weserville already had some damage done to it from the tornado last week and now it has been flooded too. In Econ we started taking notes on Supply and Demand that seems to be pretty easy to understand so far.

This week in econ we did many things in class. We started on our tourism projects which are do on Friday. In our tourism projects we had to try and get people to come to weserville. We had to make a half page newspaper ad, a radio commercial and a TV commercial. My group was Emily, Matthew and I. We did our TV commercial on Powtoons, we voice recorded our radio commercial and we did our newspaper ad on Google presentations. Also this week we had a tornado in weserville. FEMA just arrived yesterday to help with the reconstruction of our town. They will be staying for at least 5 weeks.

Overall their presentations were pretty good. On Thursday the freshman had their retreat. The retreat was carnival themed so we did some carnival activities and we also had carnival food for lunch. On Friday we will have a short class because of Mass and Pep rally.

September 26, 2013- Reflective Blog

This week in Econ we focused a little on weserville but mostly on our health care reform papers. Our health care papers had to be 3-5 pages and it needed to describe Obama care and give our opinion (not our parents opinions). On Monday we worked on our papers in class. On Tuesday we took another one of Mrs wesers famous surprise quizzes that everyone seems to enjoy!! After that Mrs. Weser gave us a choice to either work on our papers or do another lesson and we all chose to work on our papers. I finished my paper on Tuesday night. On Wednesday we took notes on the government and taxes we also discussed the different types of taxes. Mrs weser split us into groups to choose if the govt should tax the rich more and the poor less or to tax everyone the same percent. I think that everyone should be taxed the same percent. This way it is fair to everyone.

This week in Economics we came up with three different ideas for businesses for weserville. The class was divided into groups (4 total groups). The 4 business ideas were an ice cream shop, apartment complex, restaurant, and book store. We narrowed the options down to three which were the apartment complex, restaurant, and book store. I think that the best option for weserville would be a restaurant. This would give the people of weserville a place to eat if they don't want to drive to the grocery store and they are out of groceries. We also played a game with weserville money were we each came up with a business idea and mrs weser told us if our company survived or not. We then made a partnership and then a corporation. I think this helped us to understand how the different types of companies work.

This week in Economics we focused on Karl Marx and Adam smith. We got into pairs in class and wrote a dialogue between Karl Marx and Adam Smith. My partner was Gurubandaa. The goal of this was to better educate everyone and ourselves on Karl Marx and Adam smiths beliefs. We started this activity on Monday and presented them on Wednesday. We used Tuesday as a day to work with our partners and put the finishing touches on our dialogues. On Wednesday everyone presented their dialogues and had a potluck in weserville. Gurubandaa and I had two endings to our dialogue the first ending was that Karl and Adam agreed on having a market economy with some aspects of a command economy. The second ending was that they had just a market economy. Adam smith did not want this so they settled it by arm wrestling. On Thursday we went over our last lesson to prepare us for our test on Friday.

                              Summary Week 2 Econ

This week we had a short week due to having Monday off for labor day. When we returned we had a test on Tuesday. This test covered Unit 1. On Wednesday we went over the different types of economies. These types of economies are Traditional, Command, and Market economies. Traditional economies are run by traditions passed down. In Command economies the government makes all the decisions. In a Market economy decisions are based on individual choice. MY opinion on the different types of economies are that everyone should have the right to make their own decisions. I believe that the best type of economy is the market economy. This is because this allows to to make your own decisions. On Thursday we discussed Karl Marx who wrote the Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital. This concludes our week.

This week in economics class we learned about weserville. We learned that weserville  is a small town with a population of 1,705 people. In class this week we held an election to elect the town planner, council, and mayor. After we held the election we broke up into groups to come up with a plan of what to do with the blue area of land in weserville. In my group we came up with the idea to build oil Riggs  After each group came up with an idea we discussed them and narrowed it down to 2 different ideas. The two final ideas were to build oil Riggs or construct a shopping center. i believe we should build oil Riggs because this will bring money and jobs to the town of weserville.
